Tropic Seafood buys live lobster from contracted local fishermen. These select lobsters are kept in Tropic’s modern facilities, in top conditions so that they maintain optimal health before a long trip abroad.
Frequently, female lobsters will start to spawn after being delivered to Tropic Seafood. These lady crawfish are released on a regular basis back into Bahamian waters. It is estimated that each spawning female lobster can hold up to a million eggs under her shell, of which a few will grow to maturity.
On June 4th, Tropic released an additional 32 lobsters back into the wild. This put an estimated 41,500,000 eggs back into the Bahamian waters. At a 1% survival rate, that will be about 400,000 surviving crawfish.
